Above is our draft music video. This was filmed at a very near location to the home of myself. We used this location due to the fact that we were very limited to time and thought it would be very easy to access.
After displaying this video to teachers and also class mates there was general opinion coming out that the location was very dry and boring, due tot the fact that it was just one wall throuhout the duration of the video. Also the filming of the video was mentioned as some people didnt belive that the one shot effect work.
Focusing more on the teachers feedback, there was negativity surrounding the appeal of the band as a whole, due to the reasoning that one of the teahcer stated they do not have any 'togetherness' at all. This came down to the lack of chemisrty in the band.
Another element that was mentioned was that of the dislike towards the contrast between the interior and exterior shots.
Although all of the above was negative some positives were suggested, for example many people commented on the enthusiasm shown by the band and the lively feel the video had.
Taking all that was said above into real consideration, we decided to take some assertive action.
Therefore we planned a whole new video with a new location and different band members. We changed these two elements of the video due to the fact that many people had said that the video was boring as a result of the location, and this was the opposite of what we wanted our band to represent as a whole. Also the change in band members was down to the fact that we wanted an all male band which fit the stereotype of our chosen genre and that appealed to our target audiience who were that of Indie Scensters in the age range of 16 to 24.
This is our final music video which has took on an exceptional transformation from the draft music video that we had produced previously.
We tried to take on board every little bit of feedback that we recieved in the most effective manor possible.
The first major bit of feedback that was processing back to us was that of the location being very dry, and boring, plus this also having a knck on effect to the video being as a result of this also boring. This was totally against what we set out to achive a the start. To reverse this element of the music video we got in touch with some major venues/ locations that would fit well with the style of our music video. This involved contacting the oweners of some very unique but fascinating venues, we were unsuccessful in one of our appraches but finally mangaed to grasp the donnignton Hall venue in the county of Derbyshire nearing the city of nottingham. This location was very rural so we felt this fit nicely with out video.
We decided to film the main content of the music video in the landing/reception areas as together we felt this was the room with most character and uniqueness. We wnated to incorparate these features into a video as much as possible to make it slightly different and unique to anything that is out there at the current time.
It wanst only the location that the audience felt was poor but that of the contrast between the interior and exterior shots. To combat against this we decided to just go for soley indoor shots rather than mixing both exteiror and interior together. We felt this would create more of a proffesianol affect.
Finally the bad members were commented on in a negative way, as the audience felt there was no togetherness in the group, and after considering this myself and Kane belived it may have something to do with the fact there was an awkward chemistry between the two males in the band and the one female. To correct this we felt it was neccasary to chnage all of the band members and ensure that all three of them were males.
Overall i believe that our music video developed massively and for the greater good. Personally i think it looks a lot more legit and like a more real media product than the draft.
The audience feedback was a great help as i belive it would of been hard to notice our own mistakes and i believe we needed other people to spot them for us to improve our video as it is obvious that people are going to have different perspectives and opinions on certain things that they like or on the other hand dislike.
